Hello,
I have read the Microsoft documentation on cloud connections here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-connect-cloud-data-sources but am still confused by the differences between the 'Personal Cloud Connection' and the 'Create connection' options for connecting to semantic models in the service.
What would be the reason to 'create a connection' to a semantic model? The Personal Cloud Connection has always worked for us without issues. Is there a reason NOT to use the Personal Cloud connection?
Thank you for your help with this. I'm finding it difficult to understand the above article.
I’ve always thought it was a best practice for maximizing business continuity to always create a connection and use shared connections.
Hey @Neka ,
The biggest difference is the ability to share and the ablity to have other people use it. If you are the ONLY person that will EVER use it and if you leave the company then nobody else cares about it then leaving it as cloud is fine. Also, you may have to update the connection when you change your password.
If this is going to outlast you or is going to be used in more than one situation or by more than one report, then I would make it part of the gateway and data sources available to folks.
