convert .cns file read from sharepoint folder to .csv in data flow gen2

Hi,

I am new to MS fabric. I have a requirement where I have got the data from my sharepoint folder and the files are in .cns format which is actually .csv format if you open the file. But the query is not reading the file . How should I convert the file from .cns to .csv in dataflow gen2 ?

Thanks,

Shivani Tyagi

Hi @ShivaniTyagi01

I did a test. I tried Dataflow Gen2, and it is able to read data from a .cns file stored in a Sharepoint site. It treats the file as CSV file and uses Csv.Document function to deal with the file automatically. Below is my testing result. There is no need to convert it.

Did you receive any error message when it failed to read the data?

Jing

Hi @ShivaniTyagi01,

It might be possible to use an Azure function activity with code in your data pipeline:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/data-factory/control-flow-azure-function-activity

Alternatively, you might also be able to use a Power Automate cloud flow for this.

Out of interest, would a rename of the file type on file explorer work? If that is the case you could use the same approach with a HTTP request:

https://pnp.github.io/blog/post/how-to-rename-files-in-sharepoint-with-power-automate/

Happy to help out 🙂
